C’était un peu le gala avant le gala, celui du Metropolitan Museum organisé lundi 1er mai par la patronne de Vogue, Anna Wintour. En cette dernière semaine d’avril, comme tout New York, Anna Wintour se pressait à l’inauguration du magasin rénové de Tiffany, sur la Ve Avenue, à deux pas de Central Park. Un coupage de ruban, mercredi 26 avril dans la matinée, avec l’actrice israélienne Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman). Une trentaine d’influenceuses, mannequins de toutes nationalités, couvertes de bijoux prêtés par Tiffany, faisaient des selfies devant les vitrines pour leurs centaines de milliers de followers. Le maire de New York, Eric Adams, retenu par d’interminables négociations budgétaires, avait dû se décommander mais, déçu, il avait cherché à faire reporter l’inauguration.
Le propriétaire Bernard Arnault, patron fondateur de LVMH, était présent à New York, mais il n’est pas apparu ce mercredi, laissant ses enfants présents, Antoine et surtout Alexandre, 30 ans, le numéro deux de Tiffany, se mettre en avant. En revanche, M. Arnault était bien là jeudi soir pour la grande soirée avec 800 invités qui dégustaient le champagne Ace of Spades, du rappeur Jay-Z, « plus cher que du Dom Perignon », confie un connaisseur.
Parmi les hôtes de Bernard Arnault se croisaient les milliardaires de Wall Street, Stephen Schwartzman (Blackstone) et Leon Black (ex-Apollo, déchu depuis les scandales #metoo), le sculpteur Jeff Koons, le footballeur Ronaldo, le maire de New York enfin libéré, ou encore le rappeur Pharrell Williams – nommé en février directeur artistique chez Louis Vuitton – et tant de célébrités que les plus de 50 ans peuvent ne pas connaître. Tiffany avait offert à ses hôtes un concert de Katy Perry et avait prévu d’inviter à dîner pendant le week-end des clients triés sur le volet. A New York, on adore la réussite et l’argent. Mais on n’est jamais trop prudent : un brin choqué par l’invasion du siège de l’avenue Montaigne à Paris par des manifestants, LVMH a renforcé ses protocoles de sécurité aux Etats-Unis.
